Team Canada defeated Team USA 4-1 in their preliminary-round game at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 on Tuesday. Team Canada (2-0-0) advanced to the semifinal round. Team USA (0-2-0) has been eliminated.

Here are the three stars of the game as selected by members of the World Cup of Hockey 2016 Organizing Committee:

3rd star - John Tavares, F, Team Canada

ASSIST, 2 SHOTS, 15:50 TOI

The lasting image from this game will be Tavares turning around Team USA defenseman Matt Niskanen and setting up Patrice Bergeron for the goal that gave Team Canada a 4-1 lead at 8:50 of the second period.

2nd star - Drew Doughty, D, Team Canada

PLUS-1 RATING, 24:17 TOI

The rock of the Team Canada defense, Doughty led all teammates in time on ice and kept the Team USA attack off balance all night.

1st star - Matt Duchene, F, Team Canada

2 GOALS, 5 SHOTS, 11:05 TOI

His goal off a crazy carom 1:29 after Ryan McDonagh gave Team USA 1-0 lead turned the game around. Duchene capped a three-goal first period when he took advantage of a Team USA offensive-zone turnover, walked in on goalie Jonathan Quick and slid it under him.

"We had a chance to knock them out of the tourney tonight, and they were obviously one of the favorites coming in and we had a big opportunity and we took it," Duchene said.
