Team Europe's achievements at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 haven't gone unnoticed in the countries that have provided players to the surprise finalist. The best-of-3 final between Team Europe and Team Canada begins Tuesday at Air Canada Centre in Toronto (8 p.m. ET, ESPN, CBC, TVA Sports).
Frankfurter Allgemeine, a daily newspaper with the largest circulation in Germany, highlighted Team Europe's 3-2 overtime victory against Team Sweden in the semifinals as well as the contributions of German center Leon Draisaitl, whose two goals include the overtime winner in Team Europe's 3-2 victory against Team Czech Republic on Sept. 19.
Der Speigel, a German weekly news magazine that is Europe's largest publication, also celebrated the accomplishments of Team Europe.
Publications elsewhere celebrated the achievement in terms of the players from their own countries.
Switzerland's Nino Niederreiter tells Blick, a national tabloid, that the national feelings on the 23-man roster disappeared quickly. A story in Kleine Zeitung, a large regional newspaper in Austria, highlights forward Thomas Vanek, the only player from that country on Team Europe's roster.
