Vladimir Sobotka scratched for Team Czech Republic

Forward recovering from shoulder injury sustained earlier in World Cup pretournament game

PITTSBURGH - Team Czech Republic center Vladimir Sobotka was not in the lineup Wednesday for a pretournament game against Team North America at Consol Energy Center.

There was a chance that Sobotka could play, but he continues to recover from a shoulder injury sustained in a pretournament game against Russia last Thursday and was scratched.

Sobotka said on Tuesday that his shoulder was '100 percent', but the decision would be made by the doctors and coaches on whether or not he would play.

He now has two days to recover further. Team Czech Republic plays its first game of the tournament Saturday against Team Canada at Air Canada Center in Toronto (8 p.m. ET; ESPNEWS, SN, TVA Sports).

Forward Roman Cervenka, who reported to the Czech Team on Tuesday after being released from his Swiss club team, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, played in his first game Tuesday.

Defenseman Tomas Kundratek and goalie Ondrej Pavelec were the other scratches for Team Czech Republic.

Team North America scratched forward Jacob Trouba, defenseman Vincent Trochek and goalie John Gibson were. Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray started in goal in his home arena.
